In 1872, a sailing ship was discovered drifting alone in the Atlantic Ocean.

The vessel had not sunk. Food, water, and most of its cargo were still aboard. But Captain Benjamin Briggs, his family, and the crew — ten people in total — had vanished without a trace.

The lifeboat was missing.
The ship's log had suddenly stopped.
The cargo hold contained 1,701 barrels of industrial alcohol.
One of the ship's pumps had been dismantled, and water had collected in the lower hull.

Did the crew abandon ship because they feared an explosion?
Did Captain Briggs believe the vessel was sinking?
Or did something happen that has never been discovered?

The Mary Celeste never sank.

But the people who left her were never seen again.

More than 150 years later, the mystery remains unresolved.

We follow the evidence, historical records, and the theories surrounding one of the most famous abandoned ships in history.
